Meme Dealer – AI meme keyboard

ABOUT Meme Dealer is a small but mighty mobile app that celebrates internet humor in its purest form — memes. We wanted to design a space that feels as fun, unpredictable, and a bit absurd as the content itself. It ships on iOS and Android, in light and dark themes, with English and Ukrainian keyboard layouts. IDEA & CHALLENGE Chats are fun — until they're not. We all know that moment when words flop and only a meme can save the vibe. But switching apps and scrolling for the right one kills the mood faster than a bad punchline. Our challenge: make chatting more expressive without breaking the rhythm. Find a way to drop the perfect meme — instantly, in the middle of the conversation. The design constraint was unforgiving. A keyboard gets roughly a third of the screen, has to coexist with whatever messenger it is embedded in, and competes with a system keyboard users already know by muscle memory. That set three rules: zero learning curve, one tap to send, and context inferred by the AI rather than configured by the user. OUR SOLUTION Meet Meme Dealer — the keyboard that speaks fluent meme. It lives inside your chat: you type — it suggests memes. You tap — it sends. That's it. We designed the experience to feel fast, playful, and effortless. Start screens set the tone: bold, contrast, and delightfully chaotic. The meme flow keeps things intuitive — because fun shouldn't wait for load times. Three things carry the product: — AI meme suggestions that read the tone of the incoming message — a 10,000-meme library kept current with trending formats — an onboarding flow that walks users through enabling a custom keyboard, the single hardest drop-off point for any keyboard product WHY WE MADE IT Because sometimes, words just aren't enough. Meme Dealer gives everyone the power to express emotion, sarcasm, or pure chaos — visually. CUSTOMIZE YOUR CHAOS Because even memes deserve a personal touch. Turn up the haptics, add a little clicky drama, switch languages, and make Meme Dealer sound (and feel) just like you. Sound and vibration on keypress, long-press symbols, a number row, language switching, and full control over what the keyboard learns — all designed to be discoverable without a manual. Built natively — a custom keyboard extension on iOS and an IME on Android — so behaviour is identical in every messaging app. Full in-house team at Empat: design, iOS, Android, backend and QA. LESSONS LEARNED The hardest screen in a keyboard product is not the keyboard — it is the permission flow. Getting a user from install to "Allow Full Access" took more design attention than the feature that follows it. And humour turned out to be a timing problem rather than a content problem: the library was never the bottleneck, the seconds between wanting a meme and sending one were.

People who treat group chats like a competitive sport — everyday messengers on WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage and Instagram, for whom a meme is the default reply rather than a decoration. Their problem is timing: the right meme exists, but finding it means leaving the chat, opening a gallery and scrolling for minutes — by which point the moment has passed. Meme Dealer serves that audience by moving the whole interaction into the keyboard, so the reply lands while the joke is still alive. Meme Dealer solves a problem everyone has and nobody had designed for. The meme reply is the dominant unit of casual conversation, and sending one was still a manual, multi-minute chore — leave the chat, open a gallery, scroll, come back, moment gone. The answer was not another meme app. It was moving the entire interaction into the keyboard and letting the AI read tone instead of asking the user to configure anything. This is a case where the design decision is the product decision — the interface choice is what makes the product work at all. We also took the least glamorous part seriously. Most custom-keyboard products lose users at "Allow Full Access"; we designed that permission sequence with the same care as the hero screens, because a product nobody finishes installing is not a product. And we did it end to end with a small in-house team — design, iOS, Android, backend, QA — shipping on both platforms with light and dark themes and two language layouts.
